Elizabeth Pitcairn returns in Bach and Bruch at Cal Neva

BB003Violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn opened the four concert Bach and Bruch series Friday evening at the Cal Neva's Frank Sinatra Celebrity Showroom.

Elizabeth and her “Red Stradivarius” began the program withDvorak’s Romanze for violin in F Minor, Op 11..

The remainder of the first part of the program featured the TOCCATA chorus performing J.S.Bach’s masterpiece, Magnificat. Soloists Katharine DeBoer, Anna Helwing and Joy Strotz, soprano, Susan Benefield, mezzo soprano ; Andy Sonnemaker and Fahad Siadat, tenors; and Stuart Duke, baritone.

BB007After intermission Ms. Pitcairn performed the feature work, Bruch's  Violin Concerto # 1 in G minor.

In response to the audience's enthusiastic applause, and to honor the "ghosts" felt backstage (Frank and the Rat Pack, perhaps) she performed Moonlight Serenade, accompanied by Donna Axton at the piano. The audience, and presumably the ghosts, were delighted.

Performances continue Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 pm at Resort at Squaw Creek; Sunday, February 7 at 3pm at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe; and Tuesday February 9 at Trinity Episcopal church in Reno at 7:30pm. 

Prices for this concert are slightly higher - $25 for Adults and at the Squaw Creek Resort is $40 for preferred seating and $20 for Seniors.
